About Ben

AboutBen2New Zealand born Ben Merito comes from a family of performers and is the youngest son of Gerry Merito, an icon in the New Zealand music industry. Now living in Western Australia, Ben Merito has distinguished himself as one of the ‘top drawer’ acoustic musicians in the Perth City music scene today. Since moving to Perth, Ben Merito has achieved a succession of steps in his career.

In 2008 Ben was the headline performance at the ‘Spring In The Valley’ Festival, showcasing himself to a sold out audience in the Swan Valley.

In 2009 Ben independently released his debut album ‘Way Back Home’. An album that reflects Ben’s raw honesty and talented songwriting skills across genres of roots, rock, reggae and soul. Ben’s voice is strong and very beautiful and songs such as Light Up The Darkness (where he sings in his native Maori) hold audiences breathless in silence to the very last note.

The continuing rise and development of Ben in 2011 lead to his second album ‘Soulful Reason’. ‘Freedom to Dance’ is the first released single from this album and the open, fun loving vibe of this song shines through in his music video clip. Ben was invited to perform with music icons, Neil Finn and Paul Kelly on ANZAC day to a sold out audience at Redhill Auditorium in the Perth Hills.

Ben’s growing audience and popularity lead him to a spot on New Zealand’s largest off shore music festival, NZ Natural line up performing alongside some of New Zealand’s finest musicians including Shapeshifter, Kora, Ladi6, Trinity Roots, David Dallas and P Money.

Following up from his recent New Zealand Hometown Tour in January 2015, Ben is about to embark on a nation wide Australian Tour supporting Tiki Taane on his ‘Acoustic Mash Up Tour’. Ben’s third studio album is due to be released later this year, it will be an album full of his soulful roots and contagious vibe, a must have!
